A Prayer of Commitment

July 19, 20261 min read

Dear God,

I am coming to You today to draw a line in the sand. For too long, I have treated You like an emergency contact—someone I only call when my life is falling apart. I have thrown up quick prayers when I needed a favor, expecting You to just step in, forgive me, and fix my problems. And then, as soon as the storm passed, I went right back to living my life entirely on my own terms, without You.

I realize now that this is not fair. It is not respect, and it is certainly not a real relationship. I know that I cannot keep treating You like a vending machine or a backup plan. I cannot expect You to keep accepting my "just in case" apologies if I never actually change my ways or give You my heart.

So, this prayer is different. This is my promise to You.

I am done using You only when I am desperate. I promise that I will stop expecting You to rescue me while I ignore You the rest of the time. Today, I am making a real commitment to seek You in the good times, in the quiet times, and in my everyday life.

I know I will still make mistakes, but I am asking for Your help to build a genuine, daily connection with You. Give me the strength to follow through on this promise, to learn what it actually means to trust You, and to never go back to being someone who only prays when the plane is going down.

I am here for real this time.

Amen.
